1st overseas win for India after 7 months
1st overseas win for India after 7
months.
India
relied on the young brigade to finally break their prolonged winless streak by
spanking Australia by eight wickets in the second Twenty20 International and
level the series 1-1 in Melbourne today. After restricting the fancied
Australians to 131 in 19.4 overs, riding on some brilliant fielding and
disciplined bowling, the Indians overhauled the target with two balls to spare
to record their first overseas win in close to seven months. Today's win snapped
India's winless run which started in England last year where they lost the
four-match Test series 0-4 and the subsequent five-match ODI series 0-3 before
slumping to another 0-4 whitewash in the Test series against Australia.
Overseas,
this is the first win for India after 7 months and 9 days. Their last victory
came during the tour of West Indies in June 2011 when India beat West Indies by
63 runs in the first Test in Kingston (June 20-23). This is India's first win
in T20s against Australia in Australia. They have so far played three games
Down Under.
This victory will taste sweet. It has come after 2
long months in the shortest format. The win has come through an all round
effort from the bowlers, fielders and the batsmen. The Indian fielders were
terrific and accounted for four wickets. The spinners bowled a tight line and
varied their pace, the Aussie batsmen struggled to get going. Jadeja was the
star of the show as he played a part in two run outs and Hussey's wicket. Even
the batting clicked as Sehwag and Gambhir got them off to a good start. Gambhir
played the sheet-anchor role to perfection and guided his team to victory. In
the process he also brought up his 7th T20I fifty. He will be one of the
contenders of the Man of the Match.
This is India biggest over Australia. The last was a seven-wicket victory in Mumbai on October 20, 2007.
Smiles all around. Gambhir and Dhoni shake hands with the Australians and leave the field.
Gautam Gambhir (56 not out) has extended his record for most fifties (7) for India in T20Is. Also Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli were involved in a stand of 54 for the second wicket - India's highest in Australia in T20Is.Ravindra Jadeja is the Man of the Match for his fielding and his wicket of Hussey.
