In media partnership with Dainik Jagran Cityplus, Kandivali Education Society’s Shroff College of Arts and Commerce conducted two inter-collegiate festivals, Sapphire and Oasis 12 from January 4-6. The Zero Gravity Club of BSc IT organised Sapphire fest.
“This year our Sapphire festival was based on the theme of punctuality and perfection. These two festivals had some interesting events this year that made the festival more exciting. Last year, the events were based on the theme of go-green,” says Dr L Bhushan, principal, KES’s Shroff College of Arts and Commerce.
The Sapphire festival was a delight for students who are technology freaks. The event was open to students of different streams as well.
“Today, it’s not only the science students that are interested in technology. Every student ,irrespective of the stream they are studying in, are interested in technology. This was the main aim of organising Sapphire and keeping it open for participation for students from different streams,” says Rahul Parekh, Secretary, Zero gravity club, a group of 60 students of polytechnic from the college.
This year the college had 17 events and was organised on a bigger scale than last year. Some of the striking events at the festival were message typing, that checked the speed of one typing a message on a mobile phone, counter strike that was mainly based on defending yourself against an enemy while playing on a computer. Among all the best activity was treasure hunt, which took place in different places in Kandivali west. “The treasure hunters were given a clue to find a treasure that was hidden in different areas in Kandivali west. This was extensive as well as exciting game,” says Dhaval Parekh, contingent leader of the club. Other activities during the event included trouble shooting, logo designing, poster making, image editing and others.
The other fest Oasis 12, had 37 events and included fun activities such as dancing, singing, back to school, rock band competition and others. The box cricket event received the maximum entries from 45 colleges. The garba dance organised by the college as a part of the festival received the maximum footfalls.
“We are extremely happy with the kind of response we are getting for our festival. We plan to make on a bigger level next year,” says Saumil Patel, a student from the college.
Bhaven Shah, Director, Arena Animation Kandivali that had a tie up with KES’s Shroff College of Arts and Commerce for the festival, says, “We received a huge response from the students who wanted to learn animation. More than 35 students registered for the course on the first day of the event. Today students are more interested in creative careers.”
