Street Section
  •  Puppet Show at Museum Gardens from 11.00am-9.00pm (with breaks)- The string puppets, or marionettes as they are called too, of Rajasthan have carved a niche for themselves in folk art. Made of wood, clothes and cotton, these figurines have glittering facial make-up of oil paints and their costumes drag on the floor of the stage. All the movements of the puppets are controlled through about five-six threads that they are hanging by from the fingers of the puppeteers. Tugging these strings to the tune of percussion, the puppeteers are able to create spectacular movements and actions to bring alive the story being narrated. These Puppeteers have their own portable stage that can be installed quickly. Their performances are always accompanied by instruments including the Pipari - a wind instrument made of bamboo chip and rubber and Dholak - much like a drum. The most popular characters include the Dholkiwala (Drum Beater), Saap-Sapera (Snake & Snake charmer), Gendh Wali (Round Ball), Bahurupia (Imitator),  Pattebaz (Card player), Anarkali (Dancer) and Jadugar (Magician). AMAR SINGH RATHORE is the most popular amongst the traditional puppeteers.
  • Bahurupia at Rampart Road from 4.00-9.00pm- Bahurupias - the street performers - regale their audiences with different character get-ups each day. They meander through the streets and go from one group of spectators to another. The Baharupia is an actor, singer, designer, performer - all packed into one. With his individual brand of humour, he presents an interesting take. His characters such as Narad, Gadulia Lohar, Sethji and Bohara Attarwala have become very popular.
  • KACHIGHODI at Rampart Road from 4.00-9.00pm- Kuchchighodi is a folk dance largely associated with marraige festivities among the Bavaria, Kumhar and Sargara communities of Rajasthan. Performed by the menfolk predominantly, it has its roots in the martial traditions of Rajasthan. Four to five persons in the attire of a bridegroom are presented as if riding horses. The horse's body is made up of two bamboo sticks and two baskets covered with trappings and a tastefully decorated woooden head, while a little jute fibre makes its tail. The riders, in flowing colourful garments, move on the stage majestically from one end to the other, enacting a battle scene elegantly brandishing their swords in the air. The horse sometimes appears to be galloping or cantering, and at other times rearing and prancing to the accompaniment of the dhol, jhalar, bankia, or to the songs by the women. The dance concludes with some vigorous movements set to the gallopadic tunes of the musical aids.
